🕜 Red Folder News

Here are this week’s red folder news events. Inflation will be in focus in the coming week with CPI numbers Tuesday and PPI Wednesday.

Headline risk remains high with the US threatening to intervene in Iran. Events in Venezuela seems to have calmed down for now. What a difference a week makes.

📈 Markets

3 Weeks of Tech outflows

A few interesting things going on under the hood in the markets this week. Firstly, Tech funds have seen 3 consecutive weeks of outflows. Not massive, but consistent selling. It can be looked at as the start of a possible trend, or an opportunity to buy tech companies at slightly depressed prices. Despite the selling, the Nasdaq 100 finished green on the week.

US Dollar breaking out to the upside!?

All the talk is about lower interest rates, and the big dollar short, but what if it surprised everyone and starting rapidly strengthening? Lots of geopolitical chess pieces moving around currently, so it would not be a huge surprise to see a massive USD short squeeze. Still early days though.

Oil also breaking out?

Lots of talk about Oil since the capture of Maduro. We looked at it last week and noted the huge size of the Venezuela reserves, which the US is now going to ‘facilitate’ onto the market. The obvious bet would be on lower prices one would presume? Maybe not. Oil flirting with a possible breakout to the upside. Small, but something to keep an eye on.
