👀 Move to Live is becoming the defining prop firm trend of 2026

Hi everyone, another week is upon us and the markets are open, so lets get straight into it.

Lots of talk this week about what is quickly becoming one of the biggest trends in prop trading: the dreaded “Move to Live”.

On the face of it, it can sound like a fair way for firms to keep offering services to profitable traders. If a trader is consistently making money, moving them to a live account should, in theory, align both sides.

The issue many traders have is the timing.

In a lot of cases, traders feel they are being moved to live just before they are due to qualify for a large payout. That usually means the simulated profits they have already earned are forfeited, and they have to start again from scratch on a live account.

Naturally, that has sparked a lot of discussion this week:

To be fair to AJ, CEO of Lucid, he is at least publicly trying to explain the practice from the firm’s point of view, including sharing stats on how many days before payout traders are typically moved to live.

Ultimately, this all comes back to firm sustainability. Unless a better model emerges, Move to Live looks like something traders may need to get used to seeing more often.

The contrarian bounce

Last week’s Extreme Fear sentiment reading was enough to give us a nice contrarian bounce, with the S&P 500 registering a 2% up week.

Gold seasonality very strong in July

Last week, we noted that S&P 500 seasonality supports a move higher. This week, it is worth mentioning gold, where seasonality from now until the end of July is also supportive of higher prices.

Record inflows into equities last month

Long only inflows hit an all time high in June at $180bn. Serious money is being put to work.

Semiconductors looking shaky

Semiconductor stocks have been driving markets higher these past few months, but cracks are starting to show.

Semiconductors and hyperscalers both pointing down

Zooming out for some context, semiconductors are still up significantly over the past year, but there is plenty of room to retrace if weakness continues.

This also adds to the relative weakness we have already seen this year in some of the major hyperscalers, including Amazon and Microsoft.
