Lets get prepared for the week ahead

Hi everyone, it’s Kieran. Another week is upon us and the markets are open, so let’s get into it.
Quite a bit of social media drama this week after Apex emailed their entire trader database to highlight one of their affiliates (supposedly @BrianStonk) who has been running up his Apex account balances to over $5million trading silver, and been posting screenshots of consecutive 6-figure green days. Apparently not all was as it seemed however. There are a lot of layers to this story so click through to X if you want to try piece together what was going on, but many tweets have been deleted so its a bit of a mess. Here’s a bit of a summary:

🕜 Red Folder News
Here are this week’s red folder news events. A quiet looking calendar this week but headline risk is high due to the US Supreme Court’s decision on Trump’s tariffs and events in Iran.

📈 Markets
Record selling
Institutional investors sold a net -$8.3 billion of US equities last week, the 2nd-largest weekly sale on record. Huge smart money selling.

US v Rest of the world
The US has heavily underperformed the rest of the world so far in 2026. Most global equity indices are having a decent year so far, especially in Asia. Doesn’t feel that way if you only follow the US markets though.

US revenue story is still exceptional
It’s not all hype though, S&P 500 revenue growth was exceptional in Q4, so high US valuations are justified.

US Tax Refunds start next week
Something to keep on your radar. Tax refunds should start ramping up in a meaningful way starting next week. A decent portion of that will end up “invested” in the markets, and could be an noteworthy retail catalyst. Anyway, lets make it through this week first 😄

OK guys that’s it from me, hope you have a great week!
Kieran
